The Phoenicians, the ancient Lebanese, were the first to develop an alphabetic script in 1100 B.C.

[^] Cedars = Al-Arz

130 Km from Beirut, Al-Arz trees or Cedars have once covered most of Lebanon in Arz ar-Rab (Cedars of the Lord). This small forest is classified as a national monument. The overexploitation of the cedar forests throughout the centuries has changed the appearance of this Biblical place. The high altitude of Al-Arz (1850m) means that it generally has a slightly longer ski season than the other resorts. This resort boasts a number of excellent hotels, as well as a lot of chalets available for rental.
